Article 10 of the Contract governs your hours of work, and guarantees your right to overtime pay and meal and rest periods.
Under the Contract, a standard full time work schedule is eight (8) hours per day, excluding meal periods, on five (5) consecutive days. An alternate (flexible) full time work schedule may consist of forty (40) hours in one workweek or eighty (80) hours within two consecutive workweeks.
The University must provide an employee with notice before changing her or his work schedule, as set forth in the Contract.
Overtime is time worked which exceeds the hours of a full-time employee’s daily schedule or exceeds 40 hours in a work week. Overtime hours are compensated at 1 ½ times the regular time rate. This only applies if you have worked in excess of 40 hours in a work week. These overtime hours do not count towards accumulation of sick leave, vacation, holiday, or retirement service credit.
Rest and Meal Periods
The University must provide meal and rest periods to CX employees. During an eight or ten hour work day, two 15 minute rest periods must be given to you. Three rest periods must be given to you during a 12 hour shift. If you are a part time employee, you will be granted at least one rest break. These rest breaks cannot be accumulated for use at a later time nor can they be taken at the beginning or end of a work day.
A meal period of at least a half hour will be given to you for any work period of six or more hours. You may waive the meal period if your shift does not go over six hours.
