Teamsters Local 2010 has been building Union power in California’s higher education, so we can protect and expand wages, benefits and rights at work for our members. Just in the past two years, over 2,200 skilled trades workers at University of California and California State University have joined our Union due to the hard work and dedication of our entire membership.
As our Union grows in size and strength, it is necessary to amend our bylaws to better fit the new make-up of Local 2010. This means establishing a Skilled Trades Division that will represent the needs and interests of skilled trades members within the structure of Local 2010. Click here to view a summary of the proposed amendments. The proposed changes have been passed unanimously by our Executive Board.
In the coming days, you will be receiving and envelope in the mail with an overview of the amendment changes and ballots for you to cast your vote. Please be sure to follow the instructions and cast your vote the moment you receive it.
The speakers also touched on the many issues affecting our members such as workload, pensions, and the ever-rising trend of contracting out.
“We showed our power here today,” said Hector Fernandez, Teamsters Local 2010 Skilled Trades Director. “We are ready to work with the Cal State to obtain the best contract but will not accept anything less than a fair agreement that benefits our members.”
Our CSU Skilled Trades workers are in wage reopener negotiations and will be in negotiations for a successor contract in 2019.
Thank you to everyone who came out. This is only the first step in our campaign to win fair wages for our members in the Cal State.
Ballots will be mailed out Monday, October 30 and should arrive at your home by Thursday, November 2. Please contact your Union Representative if you have any questions.
