We Stand with our AFSCME Sisters & Brothers

Our UC sisters and brothers, represented by AFSCME Local 3299, have been fighting for a fair contract to combat the rising racial and gender pay gaps faced by the patient care and service workers at the University of California.  But rather than agreeing to a contract with fair wages and decent benefits, the University has chosen to impose its last and final offer.  Therefore, AFSCME has called a strike on May 7-9.

Teamsters Local 2010 supports the fight of our AFSCME sisters and brothers, and call on all UC Teamsters to show their support as well.  We encourage you to come out to a rally and take the pledge to fight inequality.  All workers deserve fair wages, rights in the workplace, and the respect that comes with a Union contract.

We remind all UC Teamsters that our contracts contain a no-strike clause, which means that we may not strike during the term of the contract.  In other words, we may not refuse to go to work in support of another Union’s strike, nor may we engage in strike activity, during our work time.

However, we are free to engage in activities in support of our sisters and brothers in other Unions – such as attending rallies or picket lines – during personal non-work time, which includes meal and rest breaks, before and after work, or approved vacation or comp time.  (Note that sick time is for when we or a family member is sick and should not be used for attending rallies or pickets.)

We understand that, just as we gain strength by standing together as Teamsters, we are stronger when we a stand together with all workers at the University.
