Message from Secretary-Treasurer Rabinowitz: Keep Up the Fight!

Dear UC Teamster,

In the wake of our highly successful strike actions, the University has agreed to return to the bargaining table. This week our elected bargaining teams will be back at all three of our tables -- statewide CX, UCLA and UCSD Skilled Trades -- prepared to work hard to reach fair agreements for our members.

As I explained in this Op-Ed article published in four newspapers over the weekend, workers are tired of their supposed friends turning a blind eye to declining middle class wages and living standards. The time has come for UC President Janet Napolitano to show leadership, for UC put its values into practice by treating workers fairly and paying workers enough to live.

We followed up our strikes with powerful member actions last week, shutting down the UC Board of Regents meeting on Wednesday and taking over UCLA Chancellor Block's office on Friday. Our Regents action was highlighted throughout the media. More member actions are planned for the coming weeks.

We are making it clear to UC that our members will continue to stand together and take action -- and there will be no business as usual at the University -- until UC bargains in good faith and treats workers fairly.

I urge all UC Teamsters to continue to be involved in our contract campaign. Come to your Chapter meeting or call your Union Representative to find out how!

In Solidarity,

Jason Rabinowitz
Secretary-Treasurer
