UC President: Celebrate Our Teamster Women with a Fair Wage!

As International Women's Day approaches on Wednesday, March 8, we celebrate the extraordinary contributions made by women to our society and the world.

International Women’s Day began over a century ago in commemoration of the struggles of women garment workers for fair pay and decent conditions.  Unions have continued to be in the forefront of fighting for equal pay and equal rights, anti-discrimination laws, and family leave.

Despite our progress, women still make only 79% of what men are paid.  This gap is even more pronounced for women of color.

Teamsters Local 2010 is 81% women and the majority are people of color.  We work tirelessly every day to keep the University running.  Yet, 93% of clerical support staff at the UC are paid too little to make ends meet and 70% suffer from hunger or food insecurity.

We are fighting together for fair wages, a contract and respect for all.

Please click the button below and tell UC President Janet Napolitano to stop the discrimination and pay workers enough to live.

We also encourage all our members to participate in making March 8th A Day Without a Woman, recognizing the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system.

On Wednesday, March 8 you can join by:
  • Not shopping for one day (with exceptions for small, women- and minority-owned businesses);
  • Wearing RED in solidarity with A Day Without A Woman.
