Happy International Women’s Day! Today we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. This special holiday was born out of the struggle of women garment workers for fair pay and dignity on the job.
Today, women across the world are taking action in a “Day Without a Woman,” to demand equality and recognition of women’s contribution to society.
Here at the University of California, Teamsters Local 2010 is continuing the fight for fair pay and equal treatment. The clerical and administrative support staff who make UC work every day is 81% women, and have seen their real pay decline 24% over the past two decades. Meanwhile, executive pay for the mostly male senior management group at UC has skyrocketed. This International Women’s Day, the Teamsters say to UC President Janet Napolitano that it’s time to end this discrimination at UC and bargain in good faith for fair contracts with the Teamsters!
You can take action right now! Click here to send a message to UC President Janet Napolitano, telling her to recognize women’s contribution to UC by paying us enough to live!
