Hundreds Protest, Demand Fully Funded CSU

Over 500 students, workers, and Union members rallied in front of the State Capitol on Wednesday, April 4th protesting the Governor’s proposed budget and demanding legislators fully fund the Cal State University System.

The Governor’s proposed budget falls over $170 million short of that of the CSU Board of Trustees.

“As the nation’s largest system of public higher education, CSU plays a pivotal role in the future of the entire state.” said Jason Rabinowitz, Local 2010 Secretary-Treasurer. “The lack of funding hurts our students and the communities of California.”

Students shared their stories of dealing with skyrocketing tuition while faculty highlighted the need for resources to ensure students graduate on time. Workers spoke about their rise in workload and its negative impact on the students and their own lives.

Our members continued with their concerns on campus safety with CSU’s accumulated backlog of over $2 billion in deferred maintenance work.

Thank you to everyone who made it out to this tremendous event. We will continue to fight for the students and workers at CSU.
