Know Your Voting Rights!

Dear UC Teamster,

With this year’s elections fast approaching, we would like to remind you about your rights and some very important deadlines.

As stated in the California Election Code and in many of our contracts, you have the right to up to two hours off with pay to vote in a statewide primary or general election. Please be sure to contact your supervisor as soon as possible to make arrangements. See election code language below or click the link to your respective contract language. Those members without contract language are covered under California Election Code 14000.

All Members: California Election Code 14000
1. Privileges of Voters
14000.  (a) If a voter does not have sufficient time outside of working hours to vote at a statewide election, the voter may, without loss of pay, take off enough working time that, when added to the voting time available outside of working hours, will enable the voter to vote.

(b) No more than two hours of the time taken off for voting shall be without loss of pay. The time off for voting shall be only at the beginning or end of the regular working shift, whichever allows the most free time for voting and the least time off from the regular working shift, unless otherwise mutually agreed.

No matter your candidate, make sure to get out and cast your vote. Your vote is your voice and it is time to let your voice be heard.
