Building Power in Southern CA

It was a full room with over 50 members in attendance for our two-day Southern California Stewards Training on October 25 and 26.

Secretary-Treasurer Jason Rabinowitz led the training covering the fundamentals of Union stewardship such as duty of fair representation and the rights as representative.

“It is always so inspiring to see our stewards in one room,” said Catherine Cobb, President, Teamsters Local 2010. “They are ready to protect our members and build our Union.”

Advanced strategies where covered on the second day, allowing for a more in-depth look at representation and building member power in the workplace. Our leaders participated in hands-on activities to practice their skills while talking to new members and building direct action in the workplace.

“I thought that the steward training was a great experience because it made people think of their personal job situations,” said Spencer Owen, Plumber, Cal State Northridge. “The best part of the steward training was the game show who wants to be a shop steward.  I enjoyed all the responses I heard from everyone out in the audience.”

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Southern California Stewards Training. Your hard work will help the lives of workers across the state.
