R-E-S-P-E-C-T… Find Out What it Means to EES Workers at UC Santa Cruz!

Early Education Services teachers and assistants at UC Santa Cruz are feelin’ the love after reaching an agreement with management on lump-sum wage building payments to be made over the next year. The total payout for each employee will be $10,000 for current employees, and Teachers I and II hired after July 1, 2019 will receive a lump-sum payment of $1,000.

The Teamsters Local 2010 members are so happy about the stipend payments that they performed their own version of the famous Aretha Franklin verse in her song Respect. Watch our member Karaoke stars singing about how standing together in our Union got them R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

The payment timeline is as follows:

$3000 within two biweekly pay periods after September 30, 2019

$3000 within two biweekly pay periods after March 31, 2020

$4000 within two biweekly pay periods after September 30, 2020

Teacher I, Teacher II, Blank Assistant III and Assistant and Associate Teachers will all receive the stipends.

In addition to the stipends, employees will receive a one-step equity increase that took effect on July 1. If the Early Education Center is delayed past September 30, members have the ability to reopen the agreement to negotiate for more lump-sum payouts. While this agreement is a big victory for the EES workers at UC Santa Cruz, they are still fighting the Early Education Center being contracted out to Bright Horizons.
