A message from Secretary-Treasurer Jason Rabinowitz

Greetings Teamsters,

As our national COVID-19 crisis deepens, Teamsters Local 2010 members continue to work hard performing essential services keeping UC and CSU running to serve California.

Meanwhile, our Union continues to work around the clock to protect our health and safety, and our jobs and livelihood. We have some updates that I wanted to share with you:

We have been daily pushing on UC and CSU to ensure that workers’ pay and benefits are protected through this crisis, by extending the paid administrative leave program, and committing to no layoffs or curtailments for the duration of the crisis. Today, Local 2010, together with other UC unions representing close to 70,000 UC workers, sent a letter to President Napolitano reiterating this demand. You can view the letter by clicking here.

We have started an online petition demanding that CSU and UC protect workers’ jobs, pay and benefits and commit to no layoffs, curtailments or loss of pay and benefits for the duration of the crisis.  Please take a moment to sign the petition.

We are happy to report that we won additional leave for our members at CSU, which notified our Union today that CSU is extending its Paid Administrative Leave from 128 hours to 256 hours for COVID-related reasons. This is a great win and now it is time for UC to follow suit and do the right thing for its workers.

We have won a victory at UCLA, where our Early Childhood Education teachers, who were previously told they would only be allowed a small number of hours of paid work-from-home, were notified that they would be kept on paid status for the duration of the stay-at-home orders. Now UC must do the right thing and make this commitment to all of its workers.

Teamsters Local 2010 will hold a critical COVID-19 online Town Hall for all members on Friday, April 3, at 12 noon. We will hear important updates on how our Union is fighting to protect our safety and our livelihood during this crisis. Union attorneys will report on the benefits for our members contained in the federal stimulus laws, and Teamsters health and safety experts will report on how to maintain a safe workplace during the pandemic. I urge every member to join the webinar. If you are a current member and did not receive an invitation, please contact your Union Representative.

I want to express my gratitude for all of the Teamsters heroes in Local 2010 and across the country who are standing strong to provide essential services to keep our country moving, and standing together to make sure that workers’ safety and rights are protected! Stay safe and stay strong, Teamsters!

In Solidarity,

Jason Rabinowitz, Secretary-Treasurer
