New and Updated UC COVID-Related Leave Policies Benefit Teamsters Members

The UC Office of the President quietly updated multiple documents relating to COVID-19 leaves without informing employees or reflecting updated dates on their website. Teamsters 2010 continuously demanded changes to UC policies that severely restricted our members’ ability to care for loved ones during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic. While this is late-coming, important improvements to leave are now in place. Please note all COVID leaves expire December 31, 2020, and do not carry over.

The following positive changes affect Teamsters who were told they were not eligible for the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) leaves because they were “healthcare workers”:

  • Employees of medical centers and veterinary services who do not provide direct patient care are now eligible for Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and Emergency Family and Medical Leave (EFML).

The following changes affect all Teamsters:

  • The UC will now allow use of Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) for intermittent childcare difficulties, and the use of Emergency Family and Medical Leave (EFML) for blocks shorter than two weeks may also be used for intermittent childcare difficulties.
