Teamsters & UC Unions Win Additional 80 Hours COVID Leave!

UC Teamsters win two weeks of COVID-19 leave!

Starting Feb. 19, UC Teamsters will have access to 80 additional hours of COVID-19 leave! This vital benefit will be available to tens of thousands of workers across the UC system thanks to the UC Coalition of Unions, which lobbied the UC to act quickly to protect workers from COVID-19 health and/or financial losses.

The UC Coalition of Unions, which includes Teamsters Local 2010, AFSCME 3299, CIR/SEIU, CNA, CUCFA, UAPD, UAW 2865, UAW 5810, UC-AFT, and UPTE-CWA, submitted a letter on Jan. 10 to President Drake and the campus Chancellors, explaining exactly how the UC put workers in danger by refusing the extend the Extended COVID Related Leave (ECRL) program during the omicron surge.

Thanks to the Coalition’s lobbying and the strength of each individual union and its members, UC has extended the ECRL program and made our workplaces safer!

Teamster members are working on the front lines, putting our health on the line to keep UC running. That’s why we fought for and won additional COVID leave to protect workers who need it.

The ECRL may be used for absences retroactively back to Jan. 1, 2011 and through Sept. 30, 2022. The UC also extended use of any remaining previously accrued ECRL through Sept. 30. Contact your Union Representative if you have any questions about using COVID leave time.
