Right now, public healthcare workers who provide or support direct patient care, including UC nurses, have no guaranteed right to meal and rest periods under California law. But we can change that by asking Governor Newsom to sign Senate Bill 1334!
SB 1334 will guarantee meal and rest periods for public sector healthcare workers by including them in the law that currently guarantees such periods for private sector healthcare workers. Public sector and private sector healthcare workers do the same work: There is no reason public sector healthcare workers should be forced to go without meals and rest!
