How Teamsters can support striking Academic Workers

Today, 48,000 UC Academic Workers represented by UAW begin striking to protest the UC’s critically low pay and months of bad-faith bargaining. Teamsters Local 2010 members are allowed to join the picket lines of our Union siblings on non-work time, and there are other ways we can support our fellow UC workers:

Join a picket line, on non-work time

On rest or meal breaks, before working hours, after working hours, or on approved leave time, Teamsters are able and encouraged to join a picket line at your worksite.  Picket schedules and locations are here.

Donate to the strike fund

The UC Academic Workers Strike & Hardship fund will support striking workers who experience lost pay. Funds will supplement strike support from the UAW strike fund and some of the funds may additionally be used to ensure picket lines have water and other essentials. Donations can be made here.

Learn more about the strike

UAW workers have been bargaining since Spring 2021 for living wages, childcare subsidies, and job security. More than 92% of UAW Graduate Workers and 61% of UAW Postdoctoral Scholars report being rent-burdened, with 40% of Graduate Workers reporting that they spend half or more of their income on rent. UAW Academic Workers are critical to the undergraduate teaching and world-class research on which the UC’s reputation depends. Read more about Academic Workers’ core demands here.

Let’s show our fellow UC Union members that we stand in solidarity with UAW Academic Workers as they fight for a UC system that is equitable for all! An injury to one is an injury to all!
