Following Unit 6 members taking action across the state, including our major rally at the May Board of Trustees meeting in solidarity with the other CSU unions, CSU finally made movement in their most recent salary proposal during negotiations on June 8 and 9. CSU proposed that Unit 6 workers be placed on their proposed salary schedules based on length of service in their current classification up to step 10 or the nearest step that is not less than their current rate of pay. While we recognize the progress, we still have a long way to go, and Teamsters will keep pushing to move CSU to the fair contract we deserve.
In our following session June 20-21, our team made further progress on bargaining while continuing to hold CSU’s feet to the fire. We reached Tentative Agreements on seven non-economic articles and are awaiting CSU’s response on several other proposals. Our team further emphasized the inadequacy of CSU’s current salary proposal with a particular focus on the fact that they have proposed lowering the starting pay rates for certain classifications so much that their proposal to place up to step 10 would not even have an impact for many Unit 6 workers.
CSU’s team also indicated that they will have a new proposal regarding emergency pay; they have previously repeatedly proposed eliminating it altogether. Our Teamsters team made clear we’re not interested in takeaways.
CSU also continues to propose eliminating the in-range progression (IRP) procedure, which is unacceptable.
“All the actions we are taking as Teamsters – our rallies at the Trustees meetings, our lobbying efforts, our united actions on the campuses – are moving CSU forward, as shown by their most recent economic offer. But we still have a long way to go, so we have to keep up the pressure to win the fair contract we deserve!”
Jason Rabinowitz, Secretary-Treasurer
In order to win the pay and raises we deserve, it’s critical that we continue to escalate our actions and keep the pressure on CSU. If you haven’t already, please send a letter to the CSU Trustees and leaders at the link below. If you’d like to participate in our upcoming action at the July 11 Trustees meeting, please contact your Teamsters Steward or Union Representative.
