Fellow Teamsters,
As you are all aware, the University sent an email last week announcing their plans to eliminate the 9/80 schedule. When the University attempted to eliminate the 9/80 schedule last year, our Union fought back and immediately sent a letter to UCD asking for information to justify this decision and demanding that the University meet and confer with the Union on the impacts of this decision. UCD took its time responding, but finally replied and claimed that they believe they are allowed to eliminate 9/80 schedules per our Teamsters contract.
Our Union disagrees. UCD had an opportunity to address the 9/80 schedule during bargaining and they didn’t. If UCD wants to make changes now, they must meet and confer with our Union to address the impacts of this decision on our members. Their refusal to do so is deeply disrespectful.
With the help of some of our active members, we have prepared a petition to UCD demanding that they sit down with our Union and address the consequences of this decision. Our Union is also filing an Unfair Labor Practice complaint against UCD. We encourage every Teamster, including non-members affected by this decision, to add their names to our petition. UCD must hear from us workers!
