Teamsters,
Today is our day. Labor Day celebrates our power, our movement, and our solidarity. Labor Day began as a commemoration of workers who died fighting for their rights and continues today as a celebration of all working peoples, our Unions, and our ongoing fight for fair treatment at work. Today we both enjoy all of our past victories and set the stage for our victories to come—with Election Day quickly approaching, we have an opportunity to cement work power in America for a generation.
This year, politicians across the country have realized the power of workers. They’ve asked for our endorsements, showed up on our picket lines, and finally begun to listen to their constituents—at least sometimes. Many more politicians still need to do their jobs and listen to workers about the harm corporate power does to our communities and economies. And we can make them listen with our votes.
November 5, from city council races all the way to the Presidency, workers are organizing to support the candidates who will support us. Regardless of party affiliation, if a candidate doesn’t respect our labor and protect our work, they aren’t getting a thing from us—not a dollar, a vote, or a single volunteering shift.
This is a critical election year and we’re committed to advancing the labor movement at every level of government, with the help of pro-labor, Teamsters-endorsed candidates. We’ll keep Teamsters 2010 members up to date on all those endorsements so that you can fill out your ballot with full information on pro-worker candidates and propositions.
We thank every one of our members for the incredible contributions that you make every day to our Union, giving us the power to win more equitable workplaces at every UC and CSU. Your commitment, creativity, drive, and resilience are the backbone of our organization. Today, above all else, we want to acknowledge the incredible impact you have on our organization, our communities, and the labor movement as a whole.
Have a happy, safe, and joyous Labor Day!
