In case you missed the Sept. 11 Teamsters Local 2010 meeting for CSU Unit 6 members, we went over important information on how to determine the Teamsters-won salary step you are entitled to move up to on Oct. 1, as detailed in our Local 2010 contract with the CSU.
Article 24 – Salary, Section 24.4 reads:
Effective October 1, 2024, the CSU will transition employees to a new salary step structure. Employees will be placed on the closest (higher) salary step to their current salary and then advanced two steps. However, in no circumstances will an employee be placed on a step higher than the top step of their classification. In addition, for all employees who are below their Target Step as of October 1, 2024 they will receive two additional Step Progression(s): not to exceed four steps; the Target Step; or top step. The term “Target Step” refers to the salary step that corresponds to the employee’s length of cumulative service in their current classification at their current campus as set forth in the CSU/Teamsters MOU (cumulative length of service).
The CSU issued a technical letter on Unit 6 salary steps and will be sending each Teamster an individual communication showing your current salary step and the step you will be placed on starting Oct. 1. All Teamsters workers need to verify the CSU’s determination of which salary step you will be placed on next month.
Workers will be placed on the salary step that is closest to but not lower than their current salary. Each worker will then be moved two steps higher than their initial placement, so long as they have not reached the top step of their salary step range. Any worker who is below their target step (based on years of cumulative service in their current classification at their current campus) after that initial placement and two step raises will receive another one or two step raises toward their target step.
Each step is equivalent to a raise of approximately 2%, meaning almost all workers will receive a total raise of between 4% and 8% beginning Oct. 1. No member will be placed higher than the top step in their classification’s salary step structure.
“Everybody needs to take responsibility to make sure their information is correct. Let’s not leave it up to the CSU to do everything correctly; this is a big change and we need to ensure it’s done right.”

Teamsters Union Representative for Skilled Trades workers

It’s critical that every Teamster determine what your initial salary step placement should be by using the charts in attachment B and C of the CSU’s technical letter. Compare that number to the CSU’s calculation of your correct step to make sure the CSU is paying every worker what we’re owed!
Every Teamsters Steward has a spreadsheet of individual worker’s planned salary movement, identified by employee numbers, that you can check if you have not received your individual communication from the CSU. Contact your campus or shop Steward if you would like to check your placement on their records.

“We fought hard to win this historic contract and restoration of the steps. Now we are working hard to enforce the contract and to make sure CSU pays every member their raises correctly.”

Our salary step system is the result of nearly 30 years of fighting and unprecedented, statewide action taken by CSU Teamsters. Our campaign and our victory were only possible because of Local 2010’s committed membership.
