1,000 New Teamsters Join Local 2010!

Teamsters Local 2010 continues to grow by leaps and bounds! Our Union has won two orders from the state Labor Board adding more than 1,000 workers, previously misclassified as non-Union, to our bargaining unit.

More than 400 Executive Assistant 3 workers at the University of California joined Teamsters Local 2010 in July and on Sept. 16, 670+ Financial Services Analyst 1 and 2 were accreted into the CX Unit. These new members will immediately receive all the rights and raises in our Teamsters contract, and will now bargain for higher pay, reduced benefit costs, overtime pay, job security, and respect in the workplace!

“As a first-time union member, I’m delighted to be part of the Teamsters, one of the strongest labor unions in the world,” said Angela Gross, an Executive Assistant 3 at UC San Francisco, pictured left. “Becoming a Teamster is a powerful step toward ensuring that the rights of Executive Assistant 3 workers across the UC system are fully respected, and I’m proud to be part of this movement.”

“We are thrilled to welcome over 1,000 Executive Assistants and Financial Analysts to our fast-growing Union,” said Jason Rabinowitz, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 2010. “We are proud of all we have achieved building the size and strength of Local 2010. Together, we have built the member power that has won strong contracts and unprecedented raises for our members and their families.”

Lynn Matevosian, an Executive Assistant 3 in the Office of the Dean of the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering, pictured below, volunteered for the EA3 Bargaining Team in order to attain first-hand knowledge on unions and how they operate.

“This is my first experience working in a union. I am excited about being part of our Union because my perception is that most union members have positive experiences with their representation,” Matevosian said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how our pay structure will evolve through negotiations from a salary range with no concrete structure on how to move up the pay scale, to a step system based on longevity and experience.”

The Executive Assistants began the bargaining process on Oct. 1 for salary ranges, step placement, on-call and shift differential pay, as well as other bonus eligibility and pay. Bargaining for Financial Services Analysts will begin soon.
