EA3s: Teamsters fight for fair EA3 pay in our first bargaining update!

Two weeks ago in San Diego, our Teamsters EA3 Bargaining Team presented our initial bargaining proposals to the University of California (UC), focusing on key member priorities such as competitive pay ranges and salary steps, guaranteed raises, protection from layoffs and outsourcing, and additional compensation for missed salary step increases included in our main CX Unit agreement.

We are pleased to report that we reached a tentative agreement on wages and pay steps for EA3s at UC San Diego, and we’ve secured additional meeting dates in November and December.

Teamsters Proposals the UC Rejected:

      • $3,000 lump sum bonus
      • Additional step increases

Tentative Agreements Reached:

      • Overtime-exempt FLSA designations will remain unchanged.
      • PTO will be converted to separate sick and vacation leave.
      • Pay range and step structure for UCSD has been established.

All tentative agreements are subject to an overall tentative agreement between our Union and the UC, plus a ratification vote by full members of our Union.

These negotiations are critical to our fight for fair pay, as almost all EA3s across the state are still paid below the maximum of their campus salary range. 61% of EA3s earn below the median point of their salary range, and not a single EA3 with more than 10 years of service has reached the maximum of their salary range on any campus. Shockingly, 35% of veteran EA3s are still below the median, despite over a decade of dedicated service!

Call to Action: Demand Fair Pay for EA3s!

As the workforce that keeps the nation’s top public university system running, it’s time we demand more from the UC. The UC rakes in billions each year from public funding and rising tuition, yet continues to force us, its own workers, to pay more in retirement contributions, parking fees, and healthcare costs. UC claims to prioritize public service yet insists there’s no additional money for the workers who make everything run smoothly.

We demand that the UC share the wealth with Teamsters EA3s! Help us win fair pay and treatment for every EA3 with the actions below:
