Beginning March 24, every member of Teamsters Local 2010 has the chance to vote on an important bylaws amendment for our Union. This amendment, submitted to the membership by unanimous vote of the Local 2010 Executive Board, will help us grow as a Union and fight even harder for the 23,000 workers of Local 2010!
Why are we amending the bylaws?
In the 15 years we’ve been fighting for California workers, Local 2010 has nearly doubled in size—from 12,800 represented workers in the year 2010 to 23,000 workers today, and our membership has increased six-fold!
We’ve become one of the fastest-growing Teamsters Locals in the country, and we’ve expanded to include thousands more administrative workers at the UC, more than 2,500 skilled trades workers at UC and CSU, and now the hard-working members of AALA!
The Associated Administrators of Los Angeles (AALA) represents 3,000 LA Unified School District principals, assistant principals, and classified administrators, who voted by an overwhelming majority to affiliate with Local 2010 in December 2024.
These changes mean we need to amend our bylaws to accommodate the new make-up of Local 2010 and the needs of all our members!

“The Local 2010 strike fund was really important in supporting striking CSU Skilled Trades Teamsters fighting for salary steps in 2023. I encourage all members to approve the bylaws amendments so that we always have a strike fund when it’s needed!”
Ernesto Torres,
Teamsters 2010 Vice President and CSUSB Chief Steward
What are the proposed changes?
- Strengthen our Union by incorporating AALA into our bylaws.
- Ensure representation for every member by creating the AALA Executive Board Division and the Administrative Workers Division, in addition to our existing Skilled Trades Division. Leaders of each of the three divisions will hold advisory positions on the Local 2010 Executive Board.
- Protect our strongest weapon in our fight for fair contracts by making permanent the Local 2010 strike fund and enshrining it in our Union bylaws!
- Other changes that will ensure the efficient management of our Union.

“We are extremely proud of the work AALA has accomplished for more than 40 years. We’re committed to strengthening our collective voice so that we are treated with the respect and empathy we rightly deserve. We ask the membership to support the bylaws amendment to incorporate AALA into Teamsters 2010.”
Maria Nichols,
President of AALA

“As a longtime CX unit member, I believe these bylaw changes will improve fair representation for the Administrative Workers Division and provide a democratic foundation for all units in our Local to collaborate equitably!”
Toni Mendicino
Teamsters Steward and UC Berkeley Law Library Administrative Officer
“I’m voting YES on this amendment because our strength as Teamsters lies in our ability to grow our Union. The addition of AALA members to our Union shows how strong Local 2010 has become. Teamsters Local 2010 is moving forward!”
