Changes to Comp Time at UCLA Health

Over the next year, all UCLA Health clinical employees who are currently on School of Medicine (DGSOM) budgets will be moved to the UCLA Health System budget. This move will have no effect on any employee’s job classification, job description, job title, duties, work location, hours of work, direct supervisor or salary. What will be affected is banked comp time, which UCLA has stated cannot be carried over from DGSOM to UCLA Health System budgets. Over the next 12 months, all clinical employees will be paid out for their banked comp time as their department transitions to the Health System budget.

If you do not want to receive your comp time as a taxable pay-out, Local 2010 recommends that you plan to use your comp time in the coming months! UCLA has not released the order in which departments will be switched from DGSOM to Health System budgets. Our Union received a 30-day notice prior to the first wave of implementation, the same amount of notice given to affected employees, and expects to receive a similar 30-day notice for future waves.

Once you have been moved to the new Health System budget, check your timesheets and confirm with your manager to ensure that you continue to accrue to comp time, if continuing to accrue comp time is your preference. Our Union has confirmed that comp time will continue to be an option for all employees after the switch.

If you currently earn paid overtime instead of comp time, you can also take this opportunity to switch to accruing comp time. Our Union recommends this option, and Union Reps are happy to speak to any member who has questions on the subject!
