Save Medicare and Medi-Cal! Protect Teamsters Jobs!

Teamsters,

Last week, the House of Representatives narrowly approved a budget resolution that will debilitate funding for Medicare and Medicaid, implemented in California as Medi-Cal., and threaten good Teamsters jobs at the UC. The budget, which passed along party lines, requires the House Energy and Commerce Committee to cut $880 billion from the programs they oversee, which includes Medicare and Medicaid. There is no way for the Committee to comply with the budget resolution without slashing funding for one or both of Medicare and Medicaid.

One-quarter of US adults and half of all US children rely on Medicaid for healthcare. Medicaid helps us pay for our parent’s long-term nursing care and our children’s disability needs. Tens of thousands of Medicaid and Medicare patients use UC Health services every year, meaning any cut to those programs threatens Teamsters jobs at the UC. We can’t allow these programs to be decimated. Tell Congress to get their hands off our healthcare now!

Republicans control Congress and have the power to stop these cuts from happening. Three GOP Representatives in California, who voted in favor of this budget that will devastate our healthcare and our jobs as healthcare workers, have an especially good reason to pay attention: They won their seats by narrow margins last year and are up for re-election next year. If they want to keep representing us, they need to listen to us!

Rep. David Valadao in Bakersfield, Rep. Young Kim in Orange County, and Rep. Ken Calvert in Palm Desert/Inland Empire need to hear from workers like us!

Call (866) 426-2631 now and tell your Rep to stop the cuts!
