Thanks to our Teamsters Local 2010 All-Charities Fund and the incredible generosity of Teamsters Joint Council 42, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and Teamster Locals and members throughout the Union, Local 2010 has presented disaster relief to 32 Local 2010 members who lost their homes or were displaced long-term in the LA County fires.
These 32 Teamsters–working at UCLA, Cal State LA, and LAUSD–lost homes, cars, personal belongings, and days of pay. Many of these members lost nearly everything but the clothes on their backs when they evacuated. Many were displaced from their homes for months or longer, due to unsafe conditions and lack of clean water and electricity. While the disaster relief provided by our Union cannot restore their catastrophic losses, it provides critical assistance to get them through extremely difficult times.

“Our members impacted by the fires are forever changed but still so grateful for all the support and love they have received from our colleagues,” said AALA/Teamsters President Maria Nichols. “They remain hopeful and optimistic while looking ahead to rebuilding in the future.”
Secretary-Treasurer Jason Rabinowitz said, “Our Teamsters Union is a family, and we have a proud history of being there for our members and the community in times of disaster and need. We are pleased that Local 2010 has built strong finances and a well-funded charity so we can provide critical assistance when our members need it most.”
Overall, the Teamsters Joint Council 42 assisted more than 165 members of Southern California’s many Teamsters locals, including Local 2010. We’re proud to say that, because of the establishment of our Local 2010 All-Charities Fund and our successful fundraising dinner last year, we were able to provide additional relief to Local 2010 members. Contributions to the All-Charities fund went directly to Teamsters families in need.
