The International Brotherhood of Teamsters join our brothers and sisters across the labor movement in condemning the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and decrying the murder of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. Officer Sicknick was a member of the U.S. Capitol Police Labor Committee.

Roughly 12,000 administrative support workers at the University of California joined with the Teamsters in the year 2010, thus forming what is now Teamsters Local 2010. Coming up on our 10-year anniversary as Teamsters, we have many victories under our collective belt. Recently, we fought a proposal by the UC Board of Regents to raise our retirement contribution by 1.5%, in spite of the fact that we’re already paying more into our retirement than most state workers. We’ve won strong contracts with significant guaranteed raises and benefits, defended hundreds of workers jobs and rights at work, won thousands upon thousands of dollars in back pay and bonuses for members denied the pay or work they deserved, and aggressively protected our right to engage together in our Union and fight for our rights at work!

Our Union continues to fight UC President Drake’s “emergency” curtailment/furlough program and
Teamsters Local 2010 represents more than 2,400 Skilled Trades workers at California State University and the University of California. We are electricians, elevator mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, locksmiths, facilities workers and other trades workers who keep the school safe and running smoothly for staff and students. The Skilled Trades Division elects its own Board of Directors and has dedicated Union Representatives led by the Skilled Trades Director.
Teamsters Local 2010 and Administrative Professionals at UC won a big victory, as more than 1,000 Administrative Officer 2s won the right to Union representation with the Teamsters. Our Local 2010 staff and organizers have been working hard to show the State Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) how the UC consistently misclassifies our Bargaining Unit work through Career Tracks job titles.

Oct. 21, 2020 — Administrative Officer 2 employees working at most University of California campuses and medical centers across the state recently became a part of the CX Bargaining Unit and will immediately begin to receive the contractual benefits and workplace protections provided through our CX Contract. Teamsters 2010 held Town Halls on to go over the basics of Union membership and answer questions.
