What is Covered?
The AALA / Teamsters Member Legal Services Program is a members-only benefit for AALA / Teamsters School Administrators.
The Program pays for:
- An attorney to represent members who are proposed to be suspended or dismissed from their employment with the Los Angeles Unified School District under the provisions of the Education Code and have the right to an administrative hearing under those provisions.
- An attorney to represent members facing the loss of their credential, in a legal proceeding before the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- A $1 million insurance policy to provide excess coverage for a member who is sued for alleged actions in the course of their District employment. *
Why is this coverage important?
As School Administrators, we face unique risks to our jobs and financial future. An administrative hearing to protect our livelihood from dismissal, suspension, or demotion can cost tens of thousands of dollars. A lawsuit for alleged conduct in the course of our work can result in potentially ruinous financial liability. Until now, LAUSD School Administrators faced these risks on their own. Now, thanks to our affiliation with Teamsters Local 2010, we have the AALA / Teamsters Legal Services Program to protect us when we need it most.
Who is Covered?
The MLSP is a benefit provided to AALA / Teamsters Local 2010 members at no additional cost to you. In order to be covered by the MLSP, an individual must be a member of AALA / Teamsters Local 2010 in good standing at the time of the underlying incident, at the time the need for legal services arises, and throughout the time that MLSP services are provided.
How Do I Enroll?
Every AALA / Teamsters member is automatically covered by the AALA /Teamsters Member Legal Services Program, and the cost is included in regular membership dues. No additional enrollment or payment is required.
