When 1,100 Teamsters show up to picket at 22 campuses across the state, some at 5:00 AM, most in pouring rain, sleet, or hail—people pay attention. The first day of our historic week-long strike has generated interest from Humboldt to San Diego, including dozens of news stories.

After yesterday, our strength is undeniable. We shut down construction sites, stopped traffic, and turned away our fellow Union workers at nearly two dozen CSU campuses, all in some of the heaviest rain of the season. And we didn’t do it alone.
Early yesterday morning, IBT General President Sean O’Brien joined Teamsters at CSU East Bay to show the CSU that our strike has the full force of 1.3 million international Teamsters behind it! Asm. Liz Ortega, author of our bill AB 1818 to stop the CSU’s abuse of a legal loophole that allows them to reopen negotiations on wages, joined O’Brien at his next stop at San Francisco State. General President O’Brien rallied workers along with an incredible list of elected allies: Lt. Gov Eleni Kounalakis, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, San Francisco Supervisor Alan Wong, and our fellow CSU Unions CFA, CSUEU, APC, and UAW!
The CSU better get ready. We’re just getting started.

“Teamsters Local 2010 is making history with our unprecedented statewide ULP strike to demand that CSU honor its promises and pay our contractual raises. Our Union is taking the lead and our members are standing strong and united like never before, conducting strong effective pickets at every campus in the system. We will continue to strike and picket through the week and we will continue to fight until we win the fair treatment we deserve!”
