On Wednesday, Feb. 4, our Teamsters Bargaining Team did not meet with management, but spent the day in caucus session reviewing and writing contract proposals. Teamsters and Management passed the following Articles on Thursday, February 5.
Article 2 Out of Classification Assignment / Classification Review
Article 10 Performance Evaluation
Article 14 Vacation
Article 15 Military Leave
Article 43 Wages and Pay Differential
Article 2 Out of Classification Assignment / Classification Review (Proposed by UCSD)
UCSD proposed to keep Article 2 as current contract language. Teamsters previously proposed to shorten days worked out of classification to receive higher classification pay. Currently, skilled trades workers can be asked to work 15 days before receiving out of classification pay. Teamsters also proposed a 90-day deadline for UCSD to issue a response to an employee’s submission of an out-of-classification review. Currently there is no deadline.
Article 10 Performance Evaluation (Proposed by UCSD)
UCSD proposed to return Paragraph D to current contract language which would, in effect, keep this Article not subject to the Arbitration Procedure. Management did not agree to keep Teamsters proposal that an employee could remove an old performance evaluation after 5 years. Management did agree to Teamsters language that would allow an employee before the supervisor’s appraisal finalization to write comments pertaining to their performance and include it with their performance evaluation.
Article 14 Vacation (Proposed by Teamsters)
Teamsters proposed to remove Paragraph E “Waiting Period to Take Vacation.” Teamsters proposed a new Paragraph E “Vacation Pay” which states that vacation pay will be at the employee’s straight time rate including any shift or weekend differentials. Teamsters proposed a new Paragraph J “Vacation Cash Out” that states that an employee shall be able to cash out accrued vacation time up to 80-hours per year.
Article 15 Military Leave (Proposed by Teamsters)
Teamsters agreed after our union attorney’s review to some legal clean-up language proposed by UCSD. Teamsters proposed returning Paragraph H “Emergency National Guard Leave,” Section 3 “Service and Benefits” back to current contract language. Teamsters did not accept UCSD’s proposal in Paragraph I “Physical Examination” Section 1 to add a limitation of 30 days for military physical examination leave.
Article 43 Wages and Pay Differential (Proposed by UCSD)
UCSD proposed the following wage increases:
Effective July 2026 3% increase.
Effective July 2027 3% increase.
Effective July 2028 3% increase.
Effective July 2029 3% increase.
UCSD proposed to remove the five multi-lead positions at UCSD Health and replace the positions with more shop lead positions.
UCSD proposed a new contract page “Appendix” that would include all the current and future contract certification differential pay rates and requirements.
Teamsters and UCSD Management did not reach any Tentative Agreements during this bargaining session.
