arrow leftGo Back

On Jan. 22, our Teamsters K6 Bargaining Team did not meet with management and spent the day in caucus session, reviewing and writing contract proposals. On Jan. 23, Teamsters and UCSD exchanged the following proposals but did not reach any tentative agreements during this session:

  • Article 5 Nondiscrimination in Employment
  • Article 13 Sick Leave
  • Article 16 Leaves of Absence
  • Article 31 Reasonable Accommodations
  • Article 40 Insurance and Retirement Benefits

Article 5 Nondiscrimination in Employment (Proposed by Teamsters)

Teamsters agreed to some language that was an update to current labor law. Teamsters rejected UCSD’s proposed changes to remove current contract language that detailed provision in the agreement and adding their references to UCSD policies.

Article 13 Sick Leave (proposed by Teamsters)

Teamsters responded to UCSD’s last Article 13 proposal on Jan. 6 with recommendations from our union attorney. Teamsters proposed keeping the current sick leave factor accrual graph in the contract. Teamsters agreed to some legal updates. Teamsters rejected language added by UCSD that seemed to put more responsibility on the employee reporting illnesses. Teamsters rejected UCSD’s proposed language on designated (restriction) sick-leave protections. Teamsters proposed additional years to be able to transfer existing sick leave accruals based on years of service in the event of an employment separation.

Article 16 Leaves of Absence (proposed by UCSD)

UCSD proposed clean-up language that will update current language to stay consistent with Federal and State Laws. (Union Attorney to review language changes.)

Article 31 Reasonable Accommodations (Proposed by Teamsters)

Teamsters responded to UCSD’s last Article 13 proposal on Dec. 16, 2025, with recommendations from our union attorney. Teamsters accepted UCSD’s language proposal on legal updates and clarification language. Teamsters rejected UCSD’s strike out of current contract language in Paragraph E, which seemed to restrict an employee’s opportunity to find an alternate position within UCSD if unable to perform their current duties due to an injury or illness.

Article 40 Insurance and Retirement Benefits (Proposed by Teamsters)

Teamsters proposed to stop any medical premium increases during the life of this agreement. Teamsters proposed a $200 monthly healthcare credit for Teamsters to use to offset (lower) the current price of medical insurance premium costs to members.

NOTE: All Tentative Agreements (TA) made between UCSD Management, and our Bargaining Team must be ratified by a majority vote of Teamsters K6 Unit Skilled Trades members during the Ratification Vote at the conclusion of bargaining.
