K8 Skilled Trades Bargaining Update, Feb/March

arrow leftGo Back

On February 26 – 27 and March 4 – 5, our UCSB Skilled Trades Bargaining Team returned to the bargaining table to with proposals for fair wages and benefits. Our Research Analyst, Alex Vermie, delivered a presentation on how far behind our wages are compared with our sister campuses, which is compounded by massive increases in healthcare premiums and the outrageous cost of housing on the Central Coast.

We followed this presentation with our wage proposal to address the inequities and establish fair raises going forward.

UCSB Management finally made small progress on some articles, and we reached tentative agreements (TA) on 10 articles over the four days. However, with less than a month to go before our contract expires, we still have nearly half of the contract left on which we need to reach agreements.

The teams will meet again March 18 and 19.

Our Bargaining Team has scheduled a rally to show our solidarity in achieving fair raises and solid benefits for our hard work. More information to come in upcoming emails but mark your calendar!

“We reminded management that not only is the cost of living high in this area, we also use our bodies every day to do our jobs and we want to retire with dignity when that time comes.”
