On Jan. 21-22, our Teamsters K8 Skilled Trades Bargaining Team returned to the table with UCSB, making proposals including significant protections against outrageous increases to our payroll deductions. We were able to push back hard against the University’s attempt to exploit Limited Appointments and maintain that our hours of dedicated service will count toward conversion to full career positions.
The University finally responded to two of our original 11 proposals and gave us a proposal of their own. Despite a seeming willingness to discuss our concerns, the University still appears unprepared even on seemingly simple issues, leaving nearly 90% of our proposals unanswered thus far.
In the end, we were able to reach a Tentative Agreement on two proposals, but clearly a lot of work remains ahead.
The teams meet again Feb. 4 and 5.

“We continue to prove that we are dedicated and hardworking both on campus as well as in bargaining.”
