Our Town Hall meeting on Tuesday about our current strike authorization vote and potential strike was so popular that we reached capacity on Zoom. So we bumped up our capacity and will hold another Strike Authorization Vote Informational Town Hall at 6:00PM on Thursday, March 26.
Join Union Leadership and Certificated and Unit J Bargaining Team members to learn more about the vote to authorize our Bargaining Team to call a strike in sympathy with our sisters and brothers in UTLA and SEIU Local 99.
We are planning this strike vote due to the Los Angeles Unified School District’s unfair treatment of AALA/Teamsters members and our sisters and brothers in UTLA and SEIU Local 99, which continues after more than a year of contract negotiations. If a majority of the membership approves of the strike, our Bargaining Team will announce the date(s) and other details as soon as possible. Our hope is to join the UTLA and SEIU 99 strike that will begin on April 14.
Our main goals in negotiations have been and continue to be fair pay, a sustainable workload and improved professional working conditions. While we have pushed the District to improve their initial proposals, their offers are still insufficient. The District has proposed raises of 4% the first year of the contract, 4% the second year and a reopener (no guaranteed raises) the third year. Cost of living has skyrocketed and the District sits on billions in reserves. They can afford to pay fair raises to our members!
