Teamsters Local 2010 Secretary Treasurer Jason Rabinowitz sent a letter to CSU Chancellor Mildred Garcia demanding that she reverse the CSU’s current course of action and pay workers what’s contractually owed to them. CSU has refused to pay our July 2025 contractual raises and salary steps despite receiving full state funding. Garcia and the Board of Trustees made this even more painful for CSU Unit 6 workers by subsequently approving massive raises for executives instead.

For decades, CSU denied step increases to support staff, leaving many workers stuck at the bottom of their pay scales. Our current contract was designed to correct this injustice by restoring steps and ensuring members reached their rightful pay level by July 2025. Instead, CSU has broken its promises, using budget excuses while sitting on billions in reserves and pocketing a zero-interest state loan intended to fund these raises.

The letter from Teamsters 2010 Secretary-Treasurer Jason Rabinowitz reads, in part:

“The University can well afford to pay the contractual raises and has never asserted otherwise. The University received full funding in the state budget, thanks in large part to the lobbying efforts of Teamster members. In addition to budgeted funds and the zero-interest loan, CSU has billions of dollars in reserves and has voted to shell out millions in fat raises to already overpaid executives. Recent surges in enrollment have further improved the University’s financial standing. The University is simply trying to get away with ripping off workers because you apparently think you can.”

As we head into mediation on Dec. 17, the stakes couldn’t be higher. If CSU continues to refuse to pay what is owed, our members are ready to do whatever it takes up to and including a strike. As we finish up the process of voting to authorize strike action, our message is clear: We will not stand by while CSU cheats workers and rewards already overpaid executives. Together, we will win the fair treatment and respect we deserve!
