Teamsters Strike Captains at CSU are Ready to Roll!

An organized strike is a powerful strike, and our Teamsters strike captains are bringing that power.

Last Friday, 60 Southern California Unit 6 Teamsters dedicated their day to learning about our legal right to strike, how to run an effective picket line, and how to share our message with people across the state. Our Northern California strike captains will do the same this Friday in Oakland, ensuring all 22 Teamsters picket lines are ready to shut CSU down.

Join us in Sacramento to introduce a new bill to stop the CSU’s dishonest bargaining tactics! Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 2:00 PM, we’re meeting on the west steps of the Capitol for a rally and press conference.

Members are welcome to join on your time off from work.

Labor law allows us TO picket and talk to anyone trying to cross our picket lines. Since the California Federation of Labor and Teamsters Joint Councils 7 and 42 – which cover all Teamsters Local Unions in California – have sanctioned our strike, union drivers will be asked to turn around at picketed campus entry points The State Building & Construction Trades Council of California have also advised their workers to not cross our picket lines.

“I’m striking so that we can get what the CSU agreed to – which is our steps. The CSU has been doing this since I started 30 years ago. I found a letter from 1999 saying ‘this is your one-time bonus’ instead of a raise. It’s ridiculous.”

During the training, members practiced picketing tactics and conversations with students, police, and other Union members about respecting our strike line and our rights.

“Our Teamsters picket lines are strong and disciplined. We talk to every person coming on campus by truck, car or on foot, and request them to honor our strike. We hold the line no matter what’s going on,” said Jason Rabinowitz, Teamsters Local 2010 Secretary-Treasurer.
