Teamsters Protections Stop CX Unit Healthcare Hikes!

arrow leftGo Back

The UC recently announced a massive hike in monthly premium costs in 2027 for its employee HMO healthcare plans. We’re proud to confirm that the rate caps and subsidies we negotiated into our Teamster contract will result in much lower premiums for Teamsters members than the published rates applying to non-Union workers, and in many cases, Teamsters will see their rates actually decrease!

Instead, our new CX Unit contract, ratified this summer, includes strong caps on healthcare cost increases plus subsidies for all workers on Kaiser and Blue & Gold HMO plans. Under our contract, premiums will on average be $109 lower per month for Blue & Gold and $87 lower per month for Kaiser than what non-union UC workers will have to pay. On average, our 2027 CX HMO premiums are actually lower than what they were in 2026, while non-union UC workers will see their average premiums increase by $37 per month for Blue & Gold and $30 per month for Kaiser. For any coverage level subject to increases, CX Unit premium increases are capped at a maximum of $25 a month, as they were in our last contract.

Unfortunately, UC’s decision to raise out-of-pocket maximums will apply to Teamsters workers. No UC Union has protections against increases to that maximum in their contracts, a loophole the UC is taking advantage of to offload costs onto employees. This is underhanded behavior from the UC and our Union will absolutely bring caps on out-of-pocket costs to the bargaining table when we next negotiate with the UC.

Our current CX Unit contract calls for a UC-wide working group to identify ways to address rising healthcare costs. This will give us a say in future changes to our healthcare plans and costs.

Know your Rights on Employment Misconduct Disclosures!

Have you been asked to complete an Employment Misconduct Disclosure (EMD) form as a condition for promotion or beginning a new position at your campus? Contact your Union Rep now!

Our Union filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge against the UC when it came to our attention that the UC had begun requiring current employees to fill out EMD forms, as this is a clear violation of the terms laid out in our CX Teamsters contract. Our charge prevailed and the UC agreed to settle and change their Selection and Appointment policy, reflecting that no current CX worker should be asked for an EMD during the promotion or transfer process.

But we need every member’s help to make sure that the UC abides by our contract and their own policy! If you have been asked to fill out an EMD as a current employee, not as a new hire, please reach out to your Union Representative immediately so we can stop the UC’s contract violations!
