Update for Teamsters Skilled Trades Bargaining on Thursday, April 16
(Next Bargaining Team Negotiations Scheduled for Wednesday, April 29; Wednesday, May 6; Friday, May 8; and Wednesday, May 27.)
Bargaining Meeting Thursday, April 16th:
Teamsters and Management passed the following Articles on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
- Article 8 – Hours of Work
- Article 9 – Overtime
- Article 22 – Arbitration Procedure
- Article 41 – Shift Differential
- Article 43 – Wages and Pay Differential
(2) Teamsters and Management did not sign any Tentative Agreements during this Contract Bargaining Session
(3) Articles Passed between Teamsters and UCSD
Article 8 – Hours of Work (Proposed by UCSD)
UCSD accepted the Teamsters proposal to increase the notice of change to work schedules from 10 days to 21 days.
UCSD did not accept Teamsters proposal to increase on-call pay from 25% of hourly rate to 35% of hourly rate.
UCSD accepted the Teamsters proposal that Call Back Time will start when someone gets called back to work after they have already left for the day. The old contract language stated that the Call-Back-Time only started three hours after someone had already left for the day.
UCSD did not accept Teamsters proposal to have all K6 employees get at least 12-hours of rest before staring their next regular shift otherwise the next scheduled regular shift will be paid at Overtime rate.
Article 9 – Overtime (Proposed by UCSD)
UCSD proposed to continue with current contract language to have sick-leave pay not count towards the calculation of overtime.
UCSD did not accept Teamsters proposal language for employees to control when they wish to receive CTO or wages for working overtime or Teamsters proposal to increase the accumulation of CTO for all employees including Watch Standers.
UCSD did not accept Teamsters proposal to increase the overtime bank hours from current contract language.
UCSD proposed language to strike out the $15 overtime meal reimbursement and include new language that says each department will provide a meal program to assist that employee.
Article 22 – Arbitration Procedure (Proposed by UCSD)
UCSD proposed additional names to be added to the Selection of Arbitrators.
Article 41 – Shift Differential (Proposed by UCSD)
Teamsters on Dec 16, 2025 had proposed increases to all shift differentials pay and asbestos pay. New language was also proposed to create a weekend shift differential pay. UCSD did not accept Teamsters proposal for these increases. UCSD accepted Teamsters proposal to update when a shift differential shall be paid for all hours of a shift when one-half of the shift or at least four hours are worked after 3:00pm and before 6:00pm. Current contract language is 4:00pm – 7:00pm.
Article 43 – Wages and Pay Differential (Proposed by UCSD)
UCSD proposed the following wage increases:
- Effective July 2026 4% increase.
- Effective July 2027 4% increase.
- Effective July 2028 4% increase.
- Effective July 2029 4% increase.
UCSD was not opposed to the Teamsters proposal Effective July 2026, the SYS OPR job title (Title Code 8231) will receive an equity increase on average 1.5%. UCSD wants to move this proposal into discussion under the salary rate table.
UCSD made their second proposal to remove the (5) multi-lead positions at UCSD-Health and replace these positions with more shop lead positions.
UCSD proposed that the current (5%) Specialty Pay language as written will only be applied to employees working at the UCSD Health System.
UCSD proposed that Campus Specialty Pay (5%) will be moved into the new Certification Differential Pay Chart.
UCSD Proposed Example 1:
- California Department of Industrial Relations Fire/Life Safety Technician Certification
- 5% of base pay (prorated for part-time employees)
- Full-time and part-time career employees working as • Electricians employed in UCSD Campus Residential Retail Supply Chain Services (RRSS) Electrical Shop; or • Electricians employed in the UCSD Campus Facilities Maintenance Alarm Shop may receive when: 1. the employee obtains the license; and 2. the employee maintains the license.
UCSD Proposed Example 2:
- Metasys Tech Program: Johnson Controls Technician Program Certification through HVACRedu.net
- 5% of base pay (prorated for part-time employees)
- Full-time and part-time employees working as • Systems Operators employed in the UCSD Campus Facilities Management HVAC Shop may receive when: 1. the employee obtains the certification; and 2. the employee maintains the certification.
UCSD Proposed Example 3:
- 6G Welding Certification
- 5% of base pay (prorated for part-time employees)
- Full-time and part-time employees working as • Steamfitters employed in UCSD Campus Facilities Management may receive when: 1. the employee obtains the certification; and the employee maintains the certification.
(4) SPECIAL NOTE: All (TA) Tentative Agreements made between UCSD Management, and your Bargaining Team must be ratified by a majority vote of Teamsters K6-Unit Skilled Trades members during the Ratification Vote at the conclusion of bargaining.
