More than $650,000 is on the way to 443 UCLA Teamsters thanks to our Union’s lawsuit!
The final details are decided in our successful class action lawsuit against UCLA for their failure to pay pandemic-era retention bonuses, and workers have won big. UCLA must pay more than $650,000 to 443 UCLA CX Teamsters and they’re on the hook of our Union’s legal fees. Hopefully the UC’s biggest campus learns their lesson: Denying worker bonuses really doesn’t pay.
Payments are scheduled to be mailed out to affected workers starting March 3. Our Union filed the class action lawsuit against UCLA after UCLA Health failed to properly issue California’s 2022 “Hospital and Skilled Nursing Facility COVID-19 Retention Payment.” The payment was intended for all health care workers who worked onsite at a UC Medical Center from July 30, 2022 to October 28, 2022, and who were still employed by the UC as of the program record date of November 28, 2022, with a total benefit of up to $1,500 depending on hours worked. But the UC denied the payment to hundreds of eligible Teamsters at UCLA Health and our Union was forced to stage escalating actions and finally file our class action lawsuit–which the UC settled to the tune of more than half a million dollars!

“Teamsters Local 2010 took on UC and forced it to pay the thousands of dollars it illegally withheld from workers. Greedy employers take note: if you try to skirt your obligations and rip off workers, our Union will fight you tooth and nail until you pay us what we deserve!”
