Update for Teamsters Skilled Trades Bargaining on Wednesday, may 27

(Next Bargaining Team Negotiations Scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, Tuesday, June 9, and Friday, June 12))

(1) Bargaining Meeting on Wednesday, May 27:

Teamsters and/or Management proposed the following Articles on Wednesday, May 6.

  • Article 6 – Probationary Period
  • Article 14 – Vacation
  • Article 22 – Arbitration Procedure
  • Article 43 – Wages and Pay Differential

(2) Teamsters and Management signed the following Tentative Agreements during this Contract Bargaining Session

Article 22 – Arbitration Procedure (Tentative Agreement)

Teamsters and UCSD agreed on a list of 19 different Hearing Arbitrators. This list is updated during every new contract negotiations, because some arbitrators retire, leave to another job location, health and/or family obligations and stop taking Arbitration Hearings.

(3) Articles Proposed between Teamsters and UCSD

Article 6 – Probationary Period (proposed by Teamsters)

Teamsters rejected management proposal to extend the probationary period for new hires to one year. The Teamsters propose to keep the current new hire probationary period at six months.

Article 14 – Vacation (proposed by Teamsters)

UCSD had countered Teamsters last Vacation proposal on March 4, desiring to keep Article 14 Vacation (CCL) Current Contract Language.

Teamsters counter proposal on March 27:

Teamsters proposed to eliminate Paragraph E, “Waiting Period to Take Vacation”. Current contract language says that vacation leave cannot be used during the first six (6) months of UCSD employment. Teamsters proposed to replace the current contract language Paragraph E to say an employee can take vacation leave when it has accrued.

Teamsters proposed a new Paragraph H, “Vacation Pay” which states that vacation shall be paid at the employee’s straight time rate including any shift or weekend differentials.

Teamsters removed this language from latest proposal: Teamsters proposed a new Paragraph M, “Vacation Cash Out” which states that an employee shall be able to cash out accrued vacation time up to eighty (80) hours per year.

Article 43 – Wages and Pay Differential (proposed by Teamsters)

Teamsters Proposed: Effective July, 2026 9% wage increase ATB, Effective July, 2027 9% wage increase ATB, Effective July, 2028 9% wage increase ATB, Effective July, 2029 9% wage increase ATB.

Teamsters still propose that Effective July 2026, the SYS OPR job title (Title Code 8231) will receive an equity increase on average 1.5%.

New language proposal: Teamsters proposed an additional equity increase distributed over three years for the Irrigation Mech Classification (Title Code 8102) to standardize their wages in the K6-Unit Skilled Trades. The Irrigation Mech wages are the lowest in the K6-Unit Skilled Trades. The Irrigation Mech wage equity increase proposal will not exceed any other K6-Unit Skilled Trades Classification.

Teamsters still propose Employees who obtain and maintain specialized certifications shall be eligible for additional compensation, in accordance with Appendix D (New Appendix). To qualify for additional certification, pay, the certification must be a. Current, valid, and maintained in good standing; b. Directly related to the employee’s assigned duties or required operational support of

University facilities as verified and approved by the University. The Union and Management can meet to consider additional certifications to be included in Appendix D (New Appendix).

(4) SPECIAL NOTE: All (TA) Tentative Agreements made between UCSD Management, and your Bargaining Team must be ratified by a majority vote of Teamsters K6-Unit Skilled Trades members during the Ratification Vote at the conclusion of bargaining.
