As we begin the new school year, our district stands at an important moment. While we face significant financial challenges that will require thoughtful planning and difficult decisions, there is also much to be proud of and hopeful about.
Our students continue to make meaningful academic gains in English language arts, mathematics, and science—the highest performance levels the district has seen under the current state assessment system. These achievements are a direct reflection of the dedication and hard work of every employee who supports our schools each day.
Superintendent Chait‘s address on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Garfield HS centered on transparency, unity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to students. His vision reminds us that the challenges before us are not the responsibility of any one individual or group. They are district-wide challenges that require us to work together, support one another, and remain focused on what matters most: ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.
As AALA and Teamsters professionals, we know that strong schools are built by strong teams. Our leadership, operational expertise, and daily service create the conditions for teaching and learning to flourish. Whether supporting school operations, maintaining safe and welcoming campuses, transporting students, or providing essential services behind the scenes, our work makes a lasting difference in the lives of children.
The road ahead will require resilience and adaptability, but it also presents an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of our collective commitment. By staying united, communicating openly, and keeping students at the center of every decision, we can help guide our schools through this period while continuing to build environments where every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to achieve.
Together, we will continue to serve our schools with professionalism, compassion, and focused purpose. Our greatest strength has always been one another, and our shared obligation to students will continue to guide us forward with hope, shared accountability, and shared values.
