Message from Local 2010 Leadership

Message from our principal officer, Secretary-Treasurer

Jason Rabinowitz

Hello Teamsters,

In the face of our national crisis, the 1.4 Million Teamsters across the country have been working tirelessly performing essential services keeping America safe, the stores filled with food, and public services running. Our 14,000 Local 2010 Teamsters throughout the UC and CSU systems – 911 dispatchers, payroll and financial workers, hospital workers, skilled trades, administrative support and more – are providing critical services to the community through this crisis.

Meanwhile, our Union is working day and night to make sure that our workplaces are safe, and that our jobs and income are protected. Already, we’ve won three weeks of paid leave for those who can’t work due to illness or child care obligations, and we are continuing to fight for the extension of this program so no one will lose pay or benefits due to COVID-19. We’ve won the right for more than a thousand of our members to work safely from home after they were initially denied telecommuting. We’ve won PPE and other safety measures. At CSU, we have won the right for those of us called in to work during this crisis to receive emergency pay.

We are in daily contact with top leadership at UC and CSU to enforce our members’ rights and safety. And we are making this message heard loud and clear: the employers must prevent layoffs or any loss of pay for our members who are unable to work due to COVID-19 for the duration of this crisis.

We have carried that message to the UC Board of Regents and the CSU Board of Trustees, as our leaders have addressed those bodies, urging them to protect worker safety, pay and benefits during this crisis.

We have received many inspiring messages of thanks from members, and one, from Diana Lopez at UCLA, said it more eloquently than I can: “Thank you so much for such quick action on taking care of our members at this time of uncertainty. This is making Teamster history,  something that won’t be forgotten! TEAMSTERS don’t fear COVID-19. We’ll beat this!”

Thanks to all the hardworking Teamsters of Local 2010 for your service to our state, and thanks to our dedicated Teamsters officers and staff for your service to the members. I am always proud to be a Teamster, and especially so at this moment in history. Let’s keep working hard and standing together to serve our state and to protect workers’ safety, rights and livelihood!

"When we saw the victory by the 14,000 University of California and California State University workers we asked their union representative Teamsters Local 2010 Secretary Treasurer Jason Rabinowitz to come on the program to share their victory."

Message from our President

Catherine Cobb

Hello Teamsters,

During this COVID-19 pandemic and its uncertain times, the health and strength of our members is of crucial importance. We have insisted and pressed upon both to the UC Board of Regents and President Napolitano that our paramount concern is the safety and welfare of all our members and especially those who are 65 years old and older and those with underlying conditions that put them at a higher risk. Because the situation has been changing rapidly, we want to assure our members we will continue to vigorously advocate that all members are treated equitably when modifications to work schedules, pay, or other employment-related conditions are made by their employers during this time.

Teamsters Local 2010 will continue to keep our members updated about the COVID-19 and what our Local is doing to keep our members safe by posting information on our website. If you have concerns or issues of the safety or rights of our members, please contact your Teamster Representative.

To all our members, Thank You for all you do during these stressful times. We will get through this.

Standing Together, Teamsters stay strong!
