During negotiations on May 12 – 14, the UC proposed changes to Article 16 – Medical Separation, Article 35 – Shift Differential, Article 39 – Transfer/Promotion/Reclassification and Article 45 – Wages.
Our CX Teamsters Bargaining Team gave the UC our proposed changes to Article 23 – Parking and Appendix G on parking rates; Appendices A and B; and we made counterproposals on Article 35 – Shift Differential; Article 10 – Hours of Work; and Article 45 – Wages.
Tentative Agreements Reached:
- Article 16 – Medical Separation: Strengthens language related to the interactive process, including reassignment options; protection of our jobs from medical separation while worker is on other leaves such as FMLA, pregnancy leave, etc.; and reemployment opportunities.
- Article 35 – Shift Differential: Increases differential rates for campus employees from $1.00 to $1.25, maintains $1.25 for medical centers, and expands differential rates to all titles in the Bargaining Unit who are regularly assigned to an evening or night shift.
- Article 44 – Vacation: Maintains language that vacation may be used for illness, disability or personal reasons, that requests shall not be unreasonably denied or cancelled, and protects from loss of holiday eligibility pay during curtailment.
The teams meet next in San Diego on May 28 and 29. If you have any questions about bargaining or our CX Teamsters contract, reach out to your Union Representative!

“Our Bargaining Team is working hard for the members, fighting UC to get fair wages and caps on increased costs of benefits. We made some movement on some articles and are still pushing on other articles. The team is looking at the new agreement with UC and AFSCME to understand it and see if some of the benefits should be included in our contract.”
