K4 Teamsters, check your paycheck issued on Jan. 29—following a successful grievance filed by Teamsters Local 2010, all K4 workers who have paid for campus parking since January 2023 will receive a refund of the parking rate increase UCLA incorrectly imposed on workers in winter 2023!
UCLA instituted the increase after the City of LA passed a 10% tax on all parking within the city, including on campus. However that 10% increase was in blatant violation of our Teamsters K4 Unit contract, which allowed parking rates to increase by only $3 for the 2023-2024 academic year. Local 2010 immediately filed a grievance against the University after learning about the rate hike, and an arbitrator ruled resoundingly in our Union’s favor in March 2024.
For the past ten months, our Union has pushed UCLA to follow the arbitrator’s ruling and remove the rate hike for K4 workers and refund the money incorrectly charged. Finally, those refunds are on the way, retroactive to January 2023! While UCLA continues to charge more for parking than is allowed under our contract, they will continue to refund the difference in rates to workers’ paychecks until they have successfully corrected the parking deduction for K4 workers. And our Union will keep pushing them until the issue is resolved completely!
