Reflecting, Resetting, Reaching Higher

Dearest Sisters and Brothers,

We are at the end of yet another school year. This year has brought meaningful changes to our AALA/Teamsters Local 2010 family. I am humbled by your commitment to our union. I trust the work we do as we fight for fair and equitable working conditions.

We have accomplished so much and have come a very long way. We have been on an upward trajectory, gaining victories large and small and always looking ahead to the next set of challenges.

The unprecedented unity and solidarity with our LAUSD labor partners has given us the anchor to further elevate our demands. I will stick to the adage “When We Fight, We Win” because I have learned with solidarity and coalitions comes unprecedented strength. This strength gives us the power to win fair contracts and RESPECT. Whether it is the bargaining table or preparing for a strike, we rallied and made our voices heard. May this always be the case and let us highlight and celebrate our wins:

  • 12.15% compounded raise 2025 – 2027
  • A defined 8 hour work day and 40-hour workweek
  • Built-in flexible hours for comprehensive high school administrators
  • Agreement to meet and confer on the EDSSL evaluation process
  • Priority Tier 3 Schools-Principal Stipend
  • No EDP pre-approval for Summer School/Winter Recess Academy
  • Single site administrators with 275 or more students will receive a $5000 stipend
  • All elementary AP generic and APEIS positions will be placed at level 38 on the Master Salary Schedule
  • Administrator PD X-time (40 hours per year)
  • No quota for informal classroom observations
  • Health Benefits remain status quo (for all employees)
  • Establishment of a committee to review classifications of Early Education Principals and Early Education Directors
  • Longevity bonuses (Unit J)
  • Unit J supervisors to receive equal stipend like other bargaining members for in-person work when a site is closed to students and staff
  • Extended time period for flexible hours (Unit J)

In addition to contractual agreements, I am very proud to report Friends of AALA awarded fifty- $3 thousand scholarships to the class of 2026. Teamsters Local 2010 also awarded a scholarship to one of our students. Your YES vote to fully affiliate with Teamsters last month reaffirms you are ready to continue on this journey of fighting for fair compensation and equitable working conditions.

I want you to know I listen to each and every concern shared by you. I share them at my monthly meetings with Central Leadership and when necessary, immediately pick up the phone to address egregious complaints. Know our demands are not just being shared with Central Leadership. Being part of the Teamsters brother/sisterhood has also given us a platform to lobby at the state level with assembly members and senators.

AALA/Teamsters is now standing side by side LAUSD and our Labor Coalition for the first time ever to address issues impacting public education from Pre-K thru post-secondary education. Our advocacy has no limits and I am energized for what our future holds.

Please  take the time to enjoy the summer break E and B Basis. Relax, re-energize and rejuvenate. Thanks to your voices and advocacy we added a day and a weekend to the already short E Basis Summer Break.

In Solidarity,

Maria
