On May 5, five Bargaining Team members and Teamsters 2010 Secretary-Treasurer Jason Rabinowitz addressed the CSU Board of Trustees during public comment at their regular board meeting in Long Beach. Members again demanded that the Trustees direct Chancellor Mildred Garcia to pay our July 2025 raises and negotiate in good faith.
“[Our 2025 raises] are not a request,” said Teamsters Bargaining Team member and San Diego State Locksmith Carlos Sanchez at the Trustees meeting, “they are an obligation that you have chosen not to honor… You are eroding trust, retention, and morale across the system.”

Our Teamsters Unit 6 Bargaining Team met with the CSU for a third bargaining session on our next contract on May 4. During the session, CSU continued to evade their responsibility to bargain in good faith for a multi-year contract that includes fair raises for our hard-working members. Their team continued to pass the buck to the State and emphasize budgetary uncertainty even though the Governor’s budget proposal includes a $365.7 million (7%) increase in ongoing base funding in July. Plus, CSU continues to annually hike tuition by 6% and maintains $2.4 billion in operating reserves.
Our team made clear that we expect and demand that CSU bargain in good faith on multiple years of raises as countless other public and private sector employers, including the CSU itself, have done. CSU also continued to deny providing the agreed-upon July 2025 raises. Our team continues to demand that CSU honor its commitment to provide these contractual raises that our members are owed, and our Union continues its legal fight to enforce our rights.
CSU again proposed changes to Article 8 Concerted Activities that would massively restrict our right to engage in Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strikes in a clear attempt to prevent a repeat of our successful systemwide strike this past February. Our response to CSU remains that if they don’t want strikes, then they should pay our July 2025 raises and bargain in good faith.

“CSU continues to be the worst employer in California public service, unlawfully and wrongfully refusing to pay fair raises to workers and to bargain in good faith with its Unions. Teamsters Local 2010 will continue to fight on every front – legally, legislatively and in the workplace – to change CSU’s longstanding culture of mistreating its workforce. We stand ready to do whatever it takes, up to and including further strike action, and we won’t stop until we win the fair treatment we deserve!”

In responding to our initial proposal on Article 28 Health & Safety, CSU did allow a minimum safety shoe payment, which is progress, but our team wants further improvements.
Our Bargaining Team passed proposals on the following: Article 9 Grievance Procedure together with Appendix D-8 Arbitrators and Mediators, Article 16 Vacation, and responded to CSU’s Article 28 Health & Safety proposal.
In Solidarity,
Our Teamsters CSU Bargaining Team
