LAUSD has proposed layoffs for more than a dozen AALA/Teamsters workers in Unit J and we need your help to fight back. These layoffs threaten our members’ livelihoods, undermine our union rights, and put our schools at risk.
Entire job classifications have been eliminated, but the work clearly remains. For months, the District has failed to provide meaningful information about where that work is going and claims it does not know who will perform these critical duties after July 1. The District cannot eliminate our jobs and then contract out or shift our work outside of the unit without bargaining. That is a direct attack on our members, our work, our rights, and our union.
There are also serious problems with how these layoffs were carried out, including laying off more positions than the school board authorized and failing to properly apply seniority. Our union is also pursuing charges related to possible retaliation, a situation we take extremely seriously.
