Report from the Bargaining Table

Wages
Our Union and the University remain far apart on wages. Our Bargaining Team is concerned about a fair and equitable increase for ALL workers and, at this time, is focused on achieving this goal.

UCLA’s latest offer includes equity increases for a few classifications but overlooks HERO Pay and proposes wage increases of only

July 1, 2022: 4.75%
July 1, 2023: 3.25%
July 1, 2024: 3.25%
July 1, 2025: 3.25%

It’s about the cost of gas, food and housing!

To win fair raises for all,
our membership must remain united!

Classification Concerns / New Classifications
Over the past few days, our Bargaining Team has engaged in fruitful discussions over proposals introduced back in February, the High Voltage Electrician, Sprinkler Fitter, Maintenance Mechanic and four positions in the Engineering series. Our team discussed the issues of each specific classification/job descriptions as well as our overriding concern about so-called “gray” areas which lead to out-of-classification work. UCLA has finally agreed to make movement which will, in turn, allow us to negotiate over outstanding concerns.

Our Union and the University have been discussing these proposed classifications/job descriptions for upwards of five years and even longer for jobs in the Engineering classification. Thanks to Rahsson McGlothen, Plumbing, Sergio
Sanchez, Utilities South, and Sam Huffman, Housing, for their input and the time they spent focused on these issues.

We now await revised job classification and job descriptions, as well as a proposal on Article 2, Classification and Reclassification.

UCLA addressed Bargaining Team concerns on outstanding issues in Articles 26, Grievance Procedure; Appendix A, Arbitrator List; Article 12, Hours of Work; and a new article on Licensures and Certifications.

Our Team will respond to open economic items including Article 14, Overtime (compensatory time); Article 10, Training and Education; Appendix J, Safety Shoes; Article 35, Death Payment; and Article 33, Parking.
