Our Teamster strike on Tuesday was an unprecedented show of strength, with our members letting CSU hear our voices loud and clear!
An incredible 99% of Unit 6 members honored our strike and did not go to work, joined by fellow Teamsters, students, allies, and supporters who walked the picket lines at 23 CSU locations yesterday, making headlines statewide and laying out our demands for the CSU: We demand NO more unfair bargaining, NO more substandard wage proposals, and NO more disrespect for the workers who keep the CSU running!
“Teamsters 2010 members accomplished the unprecedented: we ran a powerful, effective strike across 23 CSU locations that had a huge impact on the University’s operations. Together with our allies—students, our sister CSU Unions, every Teamsters Local in the state, dozens of other Unions, elected leaders, and the community—we demonstrated unity and strength like CSU has never seen before. Now it’s up to CSU to cease their unfair practices and come back to the table to bargain in good faith for the fair contract we deserve. If not, our members are prepared to take even stronger action in the future!”
Jason Rabinowitz, Secretary-Treasurer
Tuesday’s strike was a huge success and a massive demonstration of our power as a Union. We shut down construction sites, turned away deliveries, and stopped traffic all across the state. Joined by hundreds of students, our fellow CSU Unions–including CFA, CSUEU, UAW, and APC–and other Teamsters Locals (and many Teamsters trucks!), we began our picket lines at 5:30 AM in many locations and marched and chanted throughout the day. CSU can’t deny our power!
Stay tuned for further updates as negotiations continue with the CSU. We’re prepared to take further action if we must, but the CSU knows what’s at stake. When we say we can shut the CSU down, we mean it.
