Win for Workers as UC Agrees to No Layoffs Thru Fiscal Year

Dear Teamsters,

I am pleased to let you know that we have achieved an important win for UC workers:

For weeks, Teamsters have worked to pressure the University, including a joint Union letter to UC, our presentations to the Regents, and daily meetings with the Office of the President, demanding no layoffs for the duration of this crisis.

Today, UC leadership issued a letter committing that “there will be no COVID-19 related layoffs for all career employees through the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2020.”

We commend the UC for listening to workers and doing the right thing on this issue. Over the next few days, UC will be providing more details and guidance on the implementation of this decision, and we will share all information as we receive it.

Meanwhile, Teamsters Local 2010 will continue to push to protect workers’ safety, jobs and livelihood.  We will continue to press UC to extend the paid administrative leave program past the current 128 hours, as CSU has already done. And we will continue to press to protect our jobs from layoffs after the June 30 date to which UC has now committed.

Thanks to all Teamsters Local 2010 members for your hard work keeping the UC and CSU running, and for standing together as Teamsters to win fair treatment for workers!

In Unity,

Jason Rabinowitz, Secretary-Treasurer
