The UCSB K8 Unit Skilled Trades Bargaining Team opened 2026 with two days of bargaining Jan. 7 and 8. During the first session, our team came to the table with 11 proposals, ready to discuss our reasoning. The university was completely unprepared with proposals of their own and failed to engage our team with any questions or discussion about our proposals.
Despite informing us that they would have a response the second day, they were again unprepared, without any counterproposals or discussion on our proposed contract language.
The university’s chief negotiator did bring back Tentative Agreements on 22 articles with no changes to the current contract language that the teams agreed upon before meeting.
The teams will meet again next week, Jan. 21-22.
